Newly Constructed Health Center, in Highgate St. Mary.

The New Highgate Health Clinic, was opened by the Member of parliament Mr. Doctor Morais Guy along with other residents of St.Mary. There were some issues surrounding the openning ceremony, but this didn't stop the anxious and vigilant residents from openning their well anticipated clinic.

The controversy stemmed from the Mayor and Member of parliment for Western St. Mary, Mr. Bobby Montaque, who stated that he would not attend the ceremony simply because his name was not included on the program, though he was invited. It as also been said that there were other members of the parish council whose names were not included on the program, and as a consequence didnot attend the ceremony.

It is the opinion of numerous residents that this controversy was politically related, because the clinic was established under the leadership of the People's National Party (PNP); However, since the PNP has lost the 2007 General Election to the now ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), there seems to be emerging issues surrounding the operations of the clinic.

On behalf to the smilestmary.com team, we would like to encourage the members of both political parties to work together as a team for the overall benefit of the St. Mary residence, because at the end of the day the medical facility is for everyone.
