What is the National Youth Service?

The National Youth Service founded in 1973 by the government of Jamaica provides various career opportunities to young Jamaicans age 17-24, who have successfully completed high school and wish to access invaluable training/work experience or further their studied.

The NYS offers career orientation in a number of fields facilitated through 4 main sectors
EDUCATION
Provides the foundation to become a teacher
CONSERVATION
Uniform/Environment re;ated careers
HEALTH
Ideal for persons with an interest in health
CUSTOMISED CORPS
Sales & Admin, Customercare, Micro Entrepreneurial

 

The Steps to Achieve

STEP1 - Training Camp

Orientations takes place over a period of four weeks. The curriculaum involves self-development, work ethics, public speaking, grooming, protocal, and ethics.

STEP2 - Job Placement / National Service

During this period participants are placed in an institution or organization relevant to their chosen field of study. A forthnightly monetary contribution is given to subsidies participants' expenses.

EDUCATION CORPS

Schools: Basic, Infant, Primary or All Age

CUSTOMIZED CORPS

Private Sector Placements.

SOCIAL CORPS

Port Authority, R.A.D.A., NSWA. ODPEM

The Forestry Department, National Land Agency,

Ministry of Social Security, Ministry of Local Government,

Ministry of Agriculture and Land

UNIFORMED/CONSERVATIONAL CORPS

For Placement in the Jamaica Constabulary Force,

Jamaica Fire Brigade, Probation Offices,

Court Offices, etc.
